Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry

In August 2024, AHPRA published, "Meeting your professional obligations when using Artificial Intelligence in healthcare". This guidance outlines the regulatory, ethical, and legal responsibilities associated with AI use in practice, covering key areas such as accountability, transparency, informed consent, and understanding AI's capabilities and limitations.

Importantly, these obligations apply not only to AI used in clinical decision support practices in diagnosis but also to everyday tools like Generative AI-assisted note-taking and transcription.

The primary aim of this unique course is to equip all dental professionals with essential scientific, technological and governance knowledge to help meet these professional obligations with confidence and clarity.

Via pairing data science and clinical science concepts, attendees will acquire competencies in the understanding of AI’s role in diagnostics, patient care, workflow optimisation, as well as the legal and ethical frameworks available for the profession. This intensive 2 day course, comprising 13 scientific CPD hours, offers a strong start in AI literacy and a comprehensive perspective on integrating AI responsibly. Participants will explore published and commercial AI applications in dentistry, and review products, systems and services currently used by course participants in practice.
